superior | skies

part one: superior | enshrouded part two: superior| survival part three: superior | skies I spend a lot of time with my head in the clouds, and Lake Superior was no exception. While I didn’t experience as much of the magnificence as I had hoped, I certainly wasn’t disappointed. Click through for more of the [...]

Where to print your photographs

While I’ve been sending my images away for printing, and been very happy with the results, I thought it was time for a “scientific” comparison test. Not only do I want to make sure I’m sending the best quality prints to customers, I also wanted  customers to know where to take their images from portrait [...]

Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas!

Whether you’re celebrating Christmas, Hannukkah, Eid or Kwanzaa, Festivus, or just the fact that you have a few days extra off work, I hope your days are merry and bright. (This is what my tree looks like with my glasses off, or after a few (wobbly shot)glasses of Christmas cheer! )

I’m amazed how people can survive in what I think of as inhospitable terrain. These trees: also amazing. I have to admit that I don’t blog as often [...]

part one: superior | enshrouded part two: superior| survival part three: superior | skies UPDATE/January 30/2012: some of these images have now been added to the shop! Promises, promises… I’d fully intended to have this posted on my birthday earlier this week, and get myself back on track with editing the rest of my own [...]

Long exposure thursday is my new favourite day of the week! Taken at sunset in Marquette, MI, Lake Superior looks soft and dreamy, not at all like the inland sea whose storms swallow massive ships whole. circumnavigating lake superior

circumnavigating lake superior

9 days 4,100km infinite beauty That pretty much sums up my summer vacation, and for once it was spent exploring the beauty that is practically in my backyard. I’d never been north of Sudbury, and then I had been too young to really appreciate it, so I was thrilled at the opportunity to see northern [...]

winter is coming*

winter is coming*

* Disclaimer: this post title is brought to you by George R.R. Martin and his ‘A Song of Fire and Ice‘ series. So shush! There’s a chill in the air that wasn’t there before. The light coming into the garden is coming in at a different angle. The car is covered in dew when I [...]

grzybek

grzybek

It’s been a little longer than I thought since my last posting; I’ve been absolutely swamped with work, both good and bad, while still managing to find time to test out the choicest patios in town with friends. Since I’ve been taunting people with an old family recipe for GIANT pancakes I thought I’d better [...]

obsessions

obsessions

As you might have guessed, I have a slight obsession with lemons. My other delicious obsession is pancakes… in any form. I love fluffy hotcakes, puffy aebleskiver, paperthin crepes. Plain, fruity, cheese filled, it’s all fine. This morning I woke up after eight solid, glorious hours of sleep and thought it would be the perfect [...]

chocolate chip cookies

chocolate chip cookies

Cookies are my nemesis. I can work through just about anything else, but cookies require far more attention to detail to work with my unabashedly lazy style in the kitchen. I came across this recipe over at the marion house book, and something about Emma’s promise of perfectly delicious cookies made me march into the [...]

the other side: alstroemeria

the other side: alstroemeria

I spoke too soon. The day after my last post, it snowed. Not a little dusting like I had expected and hoped for, but a solid storm that blanketed the city and remains on the ground to this day. You could feel the collective sorrow of the population of southwestern Ontario when it was still [...]

the other side: daffodil

the other side: daffodil

I realized this week when the warmer temperatures indicated spring was here that I’ve been holding my breath over the last two months. But the pure joy I’ve been feeling is unmistakable. I am SO GLAD this winter is over. I know every winter starts to feel like the longest one ever, and even though [...]

roasted broccoli

roasted broccoli

I know broccoli isn’t a very sexy food, but when it’s crunchy and spicy it makes an awesome side dish or a great snack. I think next time I’ll try half broccoli, half kale here and see where I end up. Roasted Broccoli Adapted from Martha Stewart Serves 4 2 large heads broccoli (about 2 [...]

the other side: orchid

the other side: orchid

The trouble with a series that spans the length of an Ontario winter is that eventually, you yearn for something new. Different. The orchids were a special request and I have to admit … I had SO MUCH FUN with them. In fact, one of the images from the series might end up as a [...]

banana espresso chocolate chip muffins

banana espresso chocolate chip muffins

I’ve mentioned before that I appreciate a forgiving recipe. When I first attempted this simple little muffin from the Baked cookbook, I forgot the butter. Entirely. I blame the recipe for not stating outright “DON’T FORGET THE MELTED BUTTER IN THE MICROWAVE,” but I have a feeling I won’t win that argument. It all turned [...]

the other side: poppy 2

This little poppy’s big sister was too pretty not to include in the series. I loved the green tones at the base of the flower, contrasting beautifully with the vivid orange. Is it spring yet?

and the oscar goes to…

and the oscar goes to...

Oscar night has become something of a tradition at my house, one centered more around good food and great company than movies. It’s usually a given that most of us have only seen a third of the contenders, but we delight in sitting through four hours of pretty dresses and eating until we burst. There [...]

february 2011

february 2011

I fell off the wagon after 50 days. Now granted, that’s longer than most of my relationships, but around halfway through February I simply lost focus (heh) and stopped taking photos every day with my iPhone. And folks, that’s ok. Maybe I’ll do better in March. Maybe.
